Connecting an ECE Theory to my Teaching Practice
Researching Early Childhood Education Theories
The world of early childhood education is growing and changing each day. Depending on which country, city, type of school, and type of education program we teach or lead, we will have to adapt our teaching and leadership style to the mission and vision of that institution. Educators regularly work together to find the best practices for their schools and students. There are many educational theories that have shaped the evolution of Early Childhood Education. In this video, I touch on the theories used to develop HighScope and how Piaget's theory has been contested due to his study being based in a western culture where society could have influenced the study in ways that are not accounted for. This brings in to question the relevance of the theory in countries of varying cultures and societies. It also quickly touches on a similar theory of constructivism involving the children, Montessori, who take it a step further than HighScope and put even more emphasis on the child independently pursuing their studies at their own pace by interacting with the prepared environment.
